Tony Jaa, Tiger Chen, and Iko Uwais to star together in Triple Threat

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

My love of THE RAID and Iko Uwais' role in it has been well-documented on the site before. But I never got a chance to talk about my love of Tony Jaa (of ONG BAK fame) or Tiger Chen (star of the Keanu Reeves-directed MAN OF TAI CHI) yet. Now's my chance! And yeah, those guys f*cking rule too.

Anyway, they're all apparently going to star together in a film called (naturally) TRIPLE THREAT. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be about:

[A] Chinese martial artist who goes to Mexico to rescue his ex-wife and their son after they are kidnapped by a drug cartel.

Not going to lie, that synopsis doesn't wow me. But neither does "guy must protect an elephant he may/may not be in actual love with", but that doesn't stop Tony Jaa's THE PROTECTOR from being all kinds of badass. Plot is never the reason you go to see films like this.

No news on what roles each actor will play, but here's hoping they all get to fight with each other at least once (either as bitter enemies, or just as good guys with a misunderstanding). Good news is, at least there doesn't seem to be an annoying white kid playing the protagonist in this film, so that's already a step in the right direction.

Even more exciting is that none other than Chad Stahelski – director of JOHN WICK – will be working on the film designing the action set pieces. However, he won't be directing it, as that credit goes to relative newcomer Wang Xiaolie.

Anyway, this film just shot up to one of my top upcoming films. Anyone else excited? And any favorite martial arts films?
