Tomas Alfredson’s TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY is a film I suspect will do very well in the UK (perhaps even pick up a few BAFTAs?) but how will it fare Stateside?

While this new U.S. trailer for the film certainly does what it can to simplify things for us Yanks (“There is a mole right at the top of the Circus British Intelligence”), the recently changed North American release date (now in the prime awards territory of December) suggests confidence in the quality of the material (its box office chances on the other hand…). Whichever way you look at it, though, the film is a must-see at this point and goddamn you people for making me wait another month for this!

TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY opens December 9th.

Synopsis: Based on the classic novel of the same name, the international thriller is set at the height of the Cold War years of the mid-20th Century. George Smiley (Gary Oldman), a disgraced British spy, is rehired in secret by his government – which fears that the British Secret Intelligence Service, a.k.a. MI-6 or the “Circus”, has been compromised by a double agent working for the Soviets.
