Based on the Dave Eggers novel of the same name, THE CIRCLE follows tech worker Mae Holland as she takes a job at a powerful internet corporation, quickly rises up the company’s ranks, and soon finds herself in a perilous situation which that involves privacy, surveillance and freedom. Whoa! Early Sonic over early Mario? I don’t know about that, but it’s great to see Emma Watson in a role that’s not so high-profile, and acting opposite Tom Hanks, no less. I’m not familiar with the novel on which this is based, but this seems like it could turn out to be a decent cautionary tale, if not an extended episode of Black Mirror. In any case, I love the idea of seeing Hanks in somewhat of a villainous role, so I hope they push that as the film goes on!
THE CIRCLE will open in theaters on April 28, 2017.
