An American Werewolf in London remake Max Landis

This summer Max Landis tweeted that "there's only one of my dad's movies I'd ever be willing to try to remake and I'm already doing it," which led fans to believe that the younger Landis was working on a remake of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, especially when you take into account that one of his upcoming projects was code-named MOORS. It seems like our fears have been confirmed as Deadline announced today that Max Landis is indeed working on a remake of the classic John Landis horror/comedy.

Max Landis is set to both write and direct the upcoming remake with The Walking Dead‘s David Alpert and Robert Kirkman producing through their Skybound Entertainment for Universal Pictures. Landis says that his abbreviated pitch was "same movie takes place now" with "a few new jokes" and keeping things "practical as much as possible." Getting to see another great werewolf transformation done practically is definitely something to get excited about, but including it in a remake of a film which doesn't really need the remake treatment is something else entirely. I'm sure there are those who are pumped about a new version of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON from Max Landis, but sadly I'm not one of them. That said, I'll try to keep an open mind as well as a supply of crow on-hand should Landis' remake prove to be a worthy one. Dude's got some big shoes to fill.

John Landis' AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON followed two Americans, David and Jack, as they set off on a backpacking holiday in England. After a werewolf attack left Jack dead and David laying in a London hospital, a series of disturbing apparitions of his deceased friend informed David that he was now a werewolf and would transform at the next full moon. Cue Rick Baker's extraordinary werewolf transformation sequence.

What are your thoughts on Max Landis writing and directing a remake of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON?
