The Mist is being turned into a television series

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I just pulled up Frank Darabont‘s adaptation of Stephen King‘s THE MIST on my Amazon Instant Video a few weeks back, having had not watched it in awhile… and damn, if it didn’t still hold up as well as when I first laid eyes on it. The tentacles may be a litle worse for wear, but the rest of the film’s dynamic remains as solid as ever.

That’s what makes this new news that THE MIST is being developed for the television series treatment quite surprising. How do you top something that’s already that freakin’ good?

Dimension Television and writer Christian Torpe, who created the Danish series RITA, are moving ahead with development and have gotten the blessing of Stephen King himself to make this happen.

Unlike the film, which takes place primarily inside a supermarket, the series will opt for an original story, using the mist to seep into a small town where it then wreaks havoc upon its residents. From the psychological to the physical, those forced to endure all that the mist brings will have a lot on their plate when it comes to overcoming obstacles. They’ll have to battle both what lives in the mist as well as the changes in mindset and behavior of each other.

This is one that I’m going to have to see in practice to determine if it’s going to work out well, but Darabont’s film certainly has set a high bar for this show to try matching.

Do you plan on tuning in for a series based on THE MIST? Does THE MIST lend itself to being told as a story in serial fashion?
