James Gunn's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY wound up being such a wonderful surprise, so wonderful in fact that Gunn must have been faced with quite the challenge when it came time to craft the sequel. Audiences weren't exactly sure what to expect with the first film, so Gunn was able to take chances and give people the unexpected. When it comes to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, Gunn says that the "movie can only really be what it is" if it's taking a risk. James Gunn told USA Today that the sequel will be a "much different movie" full of bigger sci-fi concepts, new worlds and new characters.
Several new images were also released, some of which we've seen before, and you can check those out below! My favourite has to be Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) hitching a ride on Yondu's (Michael Rooker) shoulder, so make sure to embiggen!
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
