If it exists, it must be rebooted. That’s the current mantra in Hollywood, and the reason we now have this bit of news. STARSHIP TROOPERS is now about to get the reboot treatment courtesy of Sony. The original novel inspired three films and a brief animated series, along with a couple of video games.
This new movie will be written by Edward Miller and Zack Stentz, who wrote THOR and X-MEN FIRST CLASS and have penned a number of Fringe and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles episodes.
The film will be yet another reboot of a Paul Verhoeven flick with TOTAL RECALL and ROBOCOP already getting that treatment. I wonder if he’s getting a bit pissed about this at this point.
So, what direction will the film take? Will it try to play it straight as a space actioner, or will it retain a lot of camp and over-the-topness of the original? Whatever the case, the co-ed showers need to stay, and we need to find the next Denise Richards stat.
