You’re going to want to watch this one: A short film called ABE, about an inquisitive – and murderous – robot who just wants to understand why us humans don’t love him. It was directed by VFX artist Rob McLellan, and once you watch it below, you’ll figure out why MGM has just purchased the rights and plans on making a feature out of it.

Kevin Misher and Steve Tzirlin will produce ABE, according to Deadline, Jonathan Glickman and Cassidy Lange will oversee for MGM and Andy Berman and Kevin Chang will oversee for Misher Films (the CARRIE remake).

McLellan will write and direct the film, although plot details aren’t available yet. As you’ll see, the short is like a combination of HOSTEL and A.I., an intriguing mix to be sure. The “character” of Abe figures to be one of the more intriguing machines the film world has seen in quite some time.
