Screenwriter hired for homicidal android sci-fi noir The Dark Side

20th Century Fox and producers Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch have chosen screenwriter Javier Gullón to handle their adaptation of Anthony O'Neill's THE DARK SIDE, a novel which won't be published until June of next year.

THE DARK SIDE is set

in a future where the moon is used as a penal colony. When an android goes on a murderous rampage, a down on his luck detective is sent in to investigate.

While I would love to see this rampaging android movie be something along the lines of Jim Wynorski's CHOPPING MALL, the people behind it are actually comparing it to the likes of BLADE RUNNER (cool) and AVATAR (less cool).

Gullón's previous writing credits include the thrillers EL REY DE LA MONTAÑA and ENEMY, and the 2014 horror movie OUT OF THE DARK. He recently sold a revenge drama spec script called 478, which Arnold Schwarzenegger and Darren Aronofsky have come on board to star in and produce, respectively. Now there's a project that sounds very interesting.
