An unlikely duo team for a harrowing holiday adventure in Klaus trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Believe it or not, this year's holiday season is already just around the corner. That's right, folks. With Halloween steadily approaching, and (American) Thanksgiving arriving shortly thereafter, it'll soon be time to open your hearts and wallets, all in the spirit of Christmas! Thankfully, the holly and jolliest of holidays isn't just about going broke, it's also about enjoying new movies.

Today Netflix has unveiled a trailer, key art, and a poster for KLAUS, an upcoming animated Christmas comedy that finds the timeless celebration of good will toward men and consumerism threatened once more.

Here's the official synopsis for KLAUS:

When Jesper (Jason Schwartzman) distinguishes himself as the postal academy’s worst student, he is stationed on a frozen island above the Arctic Circle, where the feuding locals hardly exchange words let alone letters. Jesper is about to give up when he finds an ally in local teacher Alva (Rashida Jones), and discovers Klaus (Oscar® winner J.K. Simmons), a mysterious carpenter who lives alone in a cabin full of handmade toys. These unlikely friendships return laughter to Smeerensburg, forging a new legacy of generous neighbors, magical lore and stockings hung by the chimney with care. An animated holiday comedy directed by Despicable Me co-creator Sergio Pablos, KLAUS co-stars Joan Cusack, Will Sasso and Norm Macdonald.

Directing KLAUS from an original story of his own design is DESPICABLE ME writer Sergio Pablos, who also wrote the screenplay alongside Zach Lewis and Jim Mahoney. Leading the cast as Jesper the postman is Jason Schwartzman, with J.K. Simmons starring as the rosy-cheeked toymaker, Klaus. Also set to join the holiday hijinks are actors Rashida Jones, Norm MacDonald and Joan Cusack.

In addition to the new trailer, Netflix also shared a gallery of stills for the new film:

With its lighthearted approach to comedy and captivating production design presented by Szymon Biernacki and Marcin Jakubowski, KLAUS looks to offer a refreshing take on the familiar "Christmas in jeopardy" yarn. Netflix subscribers will undoubtedly want to gather around the warmth of their flatscreen for this one, preferably with a cup of hot chocolate in hand. If gathering the family for a theatrical outing is more your style, you'll be pleased to know that KLAUS is also coming to theaters for a limited time.

KLAUS will arrive in select theaters on November 8 and on Netflix beginning on November 15.
