Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis have a chat in Colossal clip

When it was first announced that director Nacho Vigalondo was working on a "GODZILLA meets LOST IN TRANSLATION" kaiju project called COLOSSAL, the film most readers began imagining was probably completely different from the "quirky character study" that Vigalondo has actually made. It doesn't sound like this is a movie that is going to satisfy a kaiju fan's desire to see a giant monster rampaging through cities and wreaking havoc, so it's good that the marketing department is releasing clips like the one below.

In the 50 second clip (which is followed by the film's trailer), there is only a quick reference to the kaiju element, one that is quickly brushed aside. This is mainly just Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis having a chat about their lives and their home town. Clips like this will help adjust expectations.

COLOSSAL tells the story of

Gloria, an alcoholic who returns to her hometown after her big city life is washed away by a steady stream of boozy nights and hung-over days. Once there, she reconnects with old friend Oscar but continues to struggle with her self-destructive tendencies, even more so when she discovers that said tendencies are resulting in actual destruction. Somehow, Gloria shares a mental link with a towering creature that’s currently rampaging through Seoul, and she can only control the beast by controlling herself.

Hathaway and Sudeikis are joined in the cast by Dan Stevens, Austin Stowell and Tim Blake Nelson.

COLOSSAL reaches theatres on April 7th.
