Blending zombies and high-stakes heist action, Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead offered gruesome kills and thrills. Fans quickly caught on to a whole other level of the film that included UFOs, robot zombies, and even time loops. While speaking with Total Film (via Games Radar), Zack Snyder teased that Army of the Dead 2 might just dive into time loops and the other secret tidbits of the franchise.

I’m a huge fan of this mythological understory. All your time loop fun that you can have, there’s a lot of cool enhancements that are baked in now. I can’t wait to make the sequel to Army of the Dead, so that we can see how then all of those things manifest.

Zack Snyder recently revealed that Army of the Dead 2 will be titled Planet of the Dead. He also hinted that Matthias Schweighöfer’s Ludwig Dieter and Nathalie Emmanuel’s Gwendoline might just show up as well. “But the real adventure would be to see what happened to (Ludwig Dieter) when that safe door closed,” Snyder said. “Did he get killed by Zeus or not? What happened? We don’t see him die on camera, and there’s still some time left. I won’t tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 — aka Planet of the Dead — but let’s just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. And there’s a chance that brush with death would have caused him to want to find a jailed Gwendoline.

The next installment of the Army of the Dead franchise, Army of Thieves, will debut on Netflix tomorrow, and Snyder is excited for people who haven’t watched the first film to enter the series through the spinoff.

There’s, I’m sure, a couple hundred million people on Netflix who haven’t seen Army of the Dead – that just shows you how many people are on Netflix – that will see Army of Thieves and then go, ‘Oh I should go watch Army of the Dead because this was so fun and this is so cool.’ And so for them it’ll be [a] completely different experience, to go, ‘Oh my god, clearly this is the Dieter sequel movie I’m watching, right?’ They’ll be from a completely different perspective.

Army of Thieves will debut on Netflix tomorrow, so be sure to check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray.
