Barbie Ferreira explains Euphoria “drama” and exit

Barbie Ferreira is attempting to downplay any publicized “drama” on the set of Euphoria, urging fans to not believe everything online.

Euphoria Barbie

When it was announced last summer that Barbie Ferreira would not return for a third season of HBO’s hugely popular teen drama Euphoria, it left many wondering why such a fan favorite character like Kat would have to depart. With this, speculation began as to what, if anything, occurred on the set that would make Ferreira skip out after two successful seasons. Now, well over a year after the anticipated third season was confirmed, Ferreira is explaining that sometimes rumors are just that.

Speaking on the Armchair Expert podcast, Barbie Ferreira went against her goal of not getting involved in supposedly imaginary drama of Euphoria so she can tell fans to not believe everything they read. “For me, when people ask me about season two, it’s usually they come at me with, like, I was some sort of victim to season two and I’m always like, ‘No, it’s okay, promise. It’s good…I kind of got sucked into this drama that I never asked to be in and that I’ve never talked about. I’m of the mindset that if it doesn’t exist I’m not going to address it because then I’m adding fuel to it. It’s taken on a life of its own.”

Much of the more publicized drama surrounding Euphoria involved Barbie Ferreira reportedly clashing with series creator Sam Levinson, although she has denied she ever stormed off the set. “I actually did not walk off set…I did sprain my ankle once and had to go get an X-ray. Maybe that’s what they mean?”

Even if Barbie Ferreira did decide to stay on for another season of Euphoria, she’s not convinced her character would have any natural progression. “I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go…I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show. I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that. I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that…”

Euphoria or not, Barbie Ferreira is staying busy. Not only did she appear in Jordan Peele’s Nope last year, but she has signed on for a remake of mondo quasi-documentary Faces of Death.
