Check out the trailer for David S. Goyer’s Starz series, Da Vinci’s Demons

Who knew that Leonardo Da Vinci kicked so much ass? No one! But that doesn’t mean that we can’t mess with our history books a little bit, and make someone that already did something great, do something greater.

On whole as a channel, Starz usually lets me down. You realize after having movie channels for so long that you’re just seeing the same endless stream of crap over and over again. I have yet to see a series that Starz has put out, but might change that for David S. Goyer’s DA VINCI’S DEMONS. Goyer, as you know, wrote scripts for DARK CITY, BATMAN BEGINS, THE DARK KNIGHT, and several others is getting another chance to take on some directing responsibilities with this new series. He’s written as well as produced on the project as well.

The show stars Tom Riley as a sexy and bad ass version of Leonardo Da Vinci. Goyer told THR that the series drew inspiration from modern day comic book films:

“We’ve embellished it with what I’m calling historical fantasy; he had an incredible life and we didn’t have to embellish as much as you’d think. I didn’t want to do Ye Olde Historical Drama; I wanted to do something historical, viewed through a modern prism… Da Vinci is kind of superhero-y, there are so many legends and tall tales about him. People have said aside from Christ he’s the most recognizable figure in the world. My approach wasn’t unsimilar to adapting Batman and Superman — obviously we did a lot more research.”

The writer also spoke with Access Hollywood about why he is proud of MAN OF STEEL:

“I’m really proud of it, I never thought I would be doing a Superman film, but I think the only possible way to top myself or ourselves on Batman is to tackle Superman who’s kind of the Granddaddy of all the superheroes. He’s trickier, it’s kind of easier doing a dark character who doesn’t have any super powers but I’m really proud of what we’ve done and I can’t wait for people to see it. I think the movie is going to be the right movie for the times. I’m happy that movie is coming out in the summer, because I think it’s the kind of movie that the world needs right now.”
