UPDATE: Variety is reporting that Cruise is actually up for the role of Shelby “who teamed with Henry Ford II and Ford executive Lee Iacocca to change the image of the Ford brand by making a splash in European car racing, which had been dominated by Ferrari cars.” Still looking forward to it no matter who he winds up playing.

Director Joseph Kosinski and Tom Cruise didn’t wait too long to get back together. The two may pair up again for GO LIKE HELL.

There’s nothing in place yet but Cruise and Kosinski are currently in talks. The last film they did together was OBLIVION which released this year. They made a good team on that, and could certainly be successful once more with something a little more grounded in reality.

The material is based on A.J. Baime’s book “Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans” focuses on the rivalry between Henry Ford II and Enzo Ferrari. The story is set in, “the early 1960s when the Ford Motor Company was falling behind in the sports car marketplace, with baby boomers preferring to buy fast, stylish automobiles rather than safe, comfortable vehicles.”

If everything goes according to plan, Cruise would take on the leading role of Ford II “who with the help of young visionary Lee Iacocca and former racing champion-turned-engineer Carroll Shelby, concocted a scheme to reinvent the Ford company by entering the high-stakes world of European car racing, which had been dominated by Enzo Ferrari up until then.
The trio set out to design, build and race a car that could beat Ferrari at his own game at the world’s most prestigious and dangerous race — Le Mans.”

Jason Keller (MIRROR MIRROR) penned the screenplay when Michael Mann was interested in the project. Paramount is developing a competiting flick with an original script from Lisa Schrager and the life rights of Shelby.
