Doctor Strange 2: Rachel McAdams joins Sam Raimi’s Multiverse of Madness

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

There has been some question of whether or not Rachel McAdams would reprise the role of Christine Palmer, the character she played in Scott Derrickson's Marvel adaptation Doctor Strange (watch it HERE) in the upcoming Sam Raimi-helmed sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In fact, there have been times when the trades have flat-out stated that McAdams would not be in the new film. That's not the case. It took a while to be confirmed, but sources are now telling Deadline that McAdams will be playing Christine Palmer again in Multiverse of Madness.

I was kind of bummed when I heard that McAdams wasn't going to be in the movie, so I'm glad to hear she's going to be back after all.

McAdams joins a cast that includes fellow returning actors Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, as well as new addition Xochitl Gomez (in an unspecified role) and Cumberbatch's Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame co-star Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch.

Raimi will be directing the film from a screenplay by Jade Bartlett and Michael Waldron. Plot details are being kept under wraps.

According to Deadline, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will enter production in May of 2021 – which was the month the film was originally supposed to be released, before the pandemic caused it to be pushed back to March 25, 2022.

Cumberbatch is also playing Doctor Strange again in the third Tom Holland Spider-Man movie, which is currently filming.
