Jason Blum, perhaps the most omnipresent name in the horror genre today, is currently doing the press rounds for Mike Flanagan’s creepy supernatural thriller OCULUS; I had the opportunity to speak to the Blumhouse producer regarding the project and some other specific titles. The full interview will go online next week, but here are a few brief tidbits for you to chew on:

Regarding the status of SINISTER 2, which has already been written by Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, Blum had this to say:

We’re moving forward on it, there will be some fun announcements on it very soon… I do believe that will be coming out in 2015.”

I asked Blum whether or not this fall’s PARANORMAL ACTIVITY would be the franchise’s finale. Blum’s amused response:

For PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, I would never say never, my friend. I don’t know, I really don’t know the answer to that question. I wouldn’t want to say anything and then be wrong. i don’t think anyone really knows the answer to that.

Does Blum expect to make another OCULUS if the first one is a hit?

I try not to think about that. I don’t mean to be coy to answer that question. If the movie is a big hit and Mike wants to make a sequel, I’ll be the first one saying let’s make a sequel.

Finally, regarding when we might hear some solid INSIDIOUS 3 news, which has a release date of April 3, 2015, Jason offered this up:

It’s very near, it’s on the horizon. We’ll have some announcements about that in the coming weeks. Both SINISTER 2 and INSIDIOUS 3 are on the fast track at our company.

So it looks as though we can expect some news regarding both SINISTER 2 and INSIDIOUS 3 quite soon. Additionally, you probably shouldn’t expect PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5, to wrap things up tidily.

Keep your eyes peeled for our full Jason Blum interview, hitting next week! OCULUS opens on April 11th.
