It’s not often that you see John Cusack in a traditional leading man role for an action/thriller, so it’s often odd to see ol’ Lloyd Dobler running around with a gun when you’re so used to him being the quirky, likable guy holding a radio blaring Peter Gabriel.  Such is the case with this trailer for THE NUMBERS STATION, an action/thriller starring Cusack, Malin Akerman, and Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones).  Were it not for the Cusack and Akerman, the movie would fit squarely in the direct-to-video market, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  In all actuality it looks pretty fun. The pic comes from the UK-based independent film company Matador Productions and is helmed by Danish filmmaker Kasper Barfoed, who works primarily in the Danish market.

Take a number:

Here’s the synopsis:

Emerson (Cusack), a disgraced black ops agent, is tasked with a dead-end job protecting Katherine (Akerman), the code operator for a small CIA broadcast station in the middle of the British countryside. Emerson’s mission is simple: protect Katherine. Keep her safe and keep her secure. Under attack from a group of unknown, but lethal aggressors with only a recorded message from the previous broadcaster’s bodyguard to go on, Emerson and Katherine find themselves in a life-or-death struggle against a resolute enemy – with the station compromised, an unclear target and no escape.

THE NUMBERS STATION is set for release on April 26, 2013.
