Funny trailer for Netflix’s Dear White People drops

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I remember really liking the DEAR WHITE PEOPLE movie. It was funny, poignant, and dealt with the black experience of assimilation and self-identity with a dry, insightful wit. So I’m excited to see what Netflix is going to do with its new series based on the film.

Well, a new trailer for the show just dropped, so let’s take a look:

Hmmm, it seems to basically just be the film (obviously expanded into a series), unlike say the recent FARGO or WESTWORLD series, which took their basic premises and did something vastly different with them. I wonder if the climax of the film will be the series finale, or if they’ll save that. I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing (they can spend more time on specific issues, and possibly even address more forms of social ills), just that it seems interesting. Hell, they might even do a BATES MOTEL and upend expectations. We’ll see.

Either way, I’m hopeful, and will definitely check it out when it begins streaming April 28th, 2017.
