HBO Max pounces on Ridley Scott’s Raised By Wolves

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

HBO Max is starting to resemble Francis Buxton in PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE. They think money can buy them anything. However, whereas the spoiled rich boy was unable to procure Pee-wee's bike through financial means, HBO Max has thus far been quite adept at purchasing various television series. They've already acquired a bevy of shows including Rick and Morty, multiple CW programs, and most recently the streaming rights to South Park. Well it seems as if HBO Max has landed yet another big fish – or should I say wolf -this time courtesy of Academy Award nominated director and writer Ridley Scott.

The streamer has just acquired Ridley Scott's (BLADE RUNNER, ALIEN: COVENANT) newest effort, the sci-fi epic Raised By Wolves. The program was written and created by showrunner Aaron Guzikowski (PRISONERS) and "centers on two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task." Raised By Wolves marks Ridley Scott's first directing foray into the realm of television after decades of film success with movies like GLADIATOR and THE MARTIAN.

Raised By Wolves recently wrapped principal photography in Cape Town, South Africa. The show stars Travis Fimmel, Amanda Collin, and Winta McGrath, and will consist of ten episodes. HBO Max's chief content officer Kevin Reilly had high praise for the upcoming series calling it an, "incredible vision realized," and added, “The breathtaking worlds, compelling characters and intricate storylines that Ridley, Aaron and team have created for this project are mesmerizing.” Now obviously the CCO of a major streamer isn't going to say anything negative about an upcoming project, however I'm sufficiently intrigued by the premise. Ridley Scott knows how to do science fiction right and I consider PRISONERS one of the best films of the last ten years. I have the utmost confience that this show will be both cerebral and entertaining.

What say you guys? Are you excited for Raised By Wolves? How do you feel about Ridley Scott making the move from film to television? Sound off in the comments below!
