I honestly thought the days of fans getting outraged over the announcement of remakes and reboots were behind us. We've had so many of them over the last fifteen years or so, when another one is announced I just shrug and think, "We'll see how it goes." As horror fans, we've seen nearly every one of our sacred classics get remade, rebooted, or turned into a television series. What remake could come down the pike that could possibly be as rattling and shocking as what we've already seen?

I never would have thought that it would be a reboot of GHOSTBUSTERS that would get people all riled up again. The way I've seen some fans complain about it, it's like they've never had a beloved film get remade before. A lot of the grievances I see expressed online are exactly the sort of thing I would have been saying about something like the DAWN OF THE DEAD or THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remakes more than ten years ago. I thought we were past those gripes, having figured out how little it actually matters.

Well, one person who's not complaining about the new GHOSTBUSTERS is original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd, who came up with the concept of the series and co-wrote the 1984 GHOSTBUSTERS and its 1989 sequel. Aykroyd has long been dreaming of getting a new GHOSTBUSTERS film off the ground and he has received an executive producer credit on the reboot, in addition to making a cameo in it.

Aykroyd has now seen the new film in its entirety, and he took to his social media accounts to rave about it:

As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I'm paying to see that and bringing all my friends!

So GHOSTBUSTERS 2016 has met the approval of the guy who came up with the idea in the first place. Will that do anything to quell the indignation of fans? I wouldn't count on it.

Directed by Paul Feig, the GHOSTBUSTERS reboot stars Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Chris Hemsworth, Neil Casey, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Pat Kiernan, Cecily Strong, and Charles Dance. Aykroyd's original GHOSTBUSTERS co-stars Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver also make cameos, as does Ozzy Osbourne.

The new film will be in theatres on July 15th.
