The Dark Tower Idris Elba

As much as I enjoyed reading Stephen King's Dark Tower novels, my enthusiasm for the cinematic adaptation of the material has taken a major dive since it became clear that THE DARK TOWER movie is going to mish-mash of plots and characters from throughout the entire saga. Still, I remain curious to see how it turns out.

Production on THE DARK TOWER is currently underway with Idris Elba in the role of gunslinger Roland Deschain, and yesterday Elba took to his Twitter account to share a promotional image that can be seen below and features a repeated phrase from the books. Remembering the face of your father is an honorable thing, while forgetting it is not.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel from a screenplay he wrote with Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman, and Jeff Pinkner, THE DARK TOWER has the following synopsis:

Based on the Stephen King-penned fantasy series. The film will follow a wandering knight who is the last hope of the fallen land of Mid-World. He is charged with finding the Dark Tower while battling his nemesis the Man in Black.

Elba's co-stars include Tom Taylor as Roland's young sidekick Jake Chambers, Matthew McConaughey as the evil Man in Black, Fran Kranz as the MIB's right hand man Pimli, Jackie Earle Haley as vampire leader Sayre, Katheryn Winnick in a mystery role, and Abbey Lee as Tirana, who was a minor villain in the climactic Dark Tower book.

THE DARK TOWER is scheduled to reach theatres on February 17, 2017.
