Netflix will bring MST3K to the airwaves once more

MST3K Felicia Day Patton Oswalt Netflix

It's Tuesday and we're still sifting through the wreckage of Comic-Con news. But here's one thing you need to make sure you don't miss: MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 is coming back! The popular movie-riffing show has had a second life as Rifftrax, but the O.G. concept will be returning on Netflix thanks to the "highest-funded film and TV crowdfunding campaign in history." Good job, guys. You Kickstarted the hell out of this thing.

MST3K's new cast will include nerd favorite Felicia Day as mad scientist Kinga Forrester, "daughter of one of the show's original villains, Dr. Clayton Forrester," Patton Oswalt as Son of TV's Frank, and Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn are set as the two voices of the show's robotic sidekicks. Nerdist's Jonah Rey will be the main host.

The cast will be filled out by original cast members Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester), Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot) and Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo), all reprising their roles.

The show will be executive produced and co-written by original creator Joel Hodgson. The head writer will be Elliott Kalan (The Daily Show) of the popular bad movie podcast The Flop House, joined on the staff by Community star and showrunner Joel McHale and Dan Harmon. This cast and crew is ridiculously superb, and I'm buzzing with excitement over this one.

Here's the concept of the original show:

Forced by evil scientists to watch bad "B" movies until he breaks, a host (Joel in the early years, Mike later in the show's run) and a bunch of captive robots comment on the films in order to keep sane. During each movie, the host and robots perform skits or songs, known as host segments, that are usually related to that episode's film.

MST3K will return for a 14-episode season at an as-yet unspecified date.
