New Halloween movie to be made by David Gordon Green and Danny McBride

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

Now you can’t say this is the same old thing. It has been announced by John Carpenter himself via his Facebook page that David Gordon Green (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) and comedian Danny McBride will head up the creative team behind the new HALLOWEEN movie. Both will write the film, while Green will eventually direct.

Carpenter is still on as executive producer and consultant.

This is pretty surprising news in many ways, if only because we often hear the same names bandied about over and over for projects like this. And while Green and McBride have some experience with horror (Green worked for a long time on a SUSPIRIA remake, while McBride will soon be seen in ALIEN: COVENANT), both are much better known for their comedic efforts. The duo worked together on the HBO series Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals, as well as the films PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and YOUR HIGHNESS.

Per Carpenter:

David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and…WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away.

I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool.

And you’ll get to see it in theaters on October 19th, 2018.

There you have it, folks. A new HALLOWEEN movie will be stalking theaters during next year’s Halloween season and it could very well feature music by Carpenter himself. Hard not to be jazzed about this!
