New writer tapped for Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire?

Now that Francis Lawrence has officially been tapped to direct that HUNGER GAMES sequel CATCHING FIRE things are starting to roll forward with the highly anticipated follow-up. The ball starts moving today with news over at The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog that Lionsgate are talking to scribe Michael Arndt about retoolingSimon Beaufoy’s script.

Even though I don’t have much interest in this whole HUNGER GAMES thing I’ve got to say this sounds like great news. You know, considering Arndt last penned the very respectable TOY STORY 3. Arndt will have to decide to sign on soon because Lionsgate have CATCHING FIRE tapped to start filming this Summer with all the original cast returning, including Jennifer Lawrence (below). So I’d say we can expect Arndt’s decision sooner rather than later.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

With a release date of November 22, 2013 already tapped you can bet we’ll be seeing plenty of CATCHING FIRE updates in the coming months so be on the lookout for that.
