Shudder's Creepshow starts shooting next month

Looks like Shudder’s TV series adaptation of George A. Romero and Stephen King's CREEPSHOW is moving right along. We already know the Shudder series is being shepherded to the screen by Romero protégé Greg Nicotero and Shudder subscribers will also have access to digital comics based on each episode. Which is all pretty badass. But today we have a killer update on the upcoming series.

Yes, today we have word that production on the much-anticipated series is all set to kick off next month, with the first episode called “Survivor Type”. Sound familiar? Yeah, I thought so. For those who might not know, "Survivor Type" is based on the short story by Stephen King, which was first published in the 1982 horror anthology Terrors, and collected in King's 1985 collection Skeleton Crew. And [NO SPOILERS] it's a pretty grisly tale...

Here's the rundown:

Shipwrecked on a desert island, Richard Pine reflects on his life and does the unthinkable in order to survive.

King says of "Survivor Type":

As far as short stories are concerned, I like the grisly ones the best. However, "Survivor Type" goes a little bit too far, even for me.

The original CREEPSHOW and CREEPSHOW 2 were both based entirely on stories conceived by author Stephen King so it makes sense that this new series would follow suit. But that said, we already reported that the series will also feature stories based on the works of other novelists such as HORNS author Joe Hill (King's son, who was in the first CREEPSHOW) and BUBBA HO-TEP author Joe Lansdale. Sounds good to us!

The first season will consist of six episodes, and Nicotero said

the tone of the series would shift from story-to-story, with some taking a lighthearted comedic approach (ala King’s own”The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill” segment from 1982) and others taking a much more frightening path. He also stated that each story would be “As long as they need to be” and that he did not feel any pressure to fit the stories into segments of equal length.

The first episode based on Stephen King's "Survivor Type" will be shot in Atlanta, Georgia soon and we'll let you know once we hear more on the much-anticipated series. Until then make sure to hit us up and let us know if you've read Stephen King's "Survivor Type" and what you thought of it.
