Director Ben Young caught our attention in a major way with his feature debut HOUNDS OF LOVE, a low-key, realistic story of a teenage girl being held captive by a homicidal couple. For his second feature, Young has gone big, helming a destruction-filled tale of alien invasion.

That film, titled EXTINCTION, will be available for viewing on the Netflix streaming service as of July 27th, and a trailer has arrived online to show us just how different EXTINCTION is going to be from HOUNDS OF LOVE.

Michael Peña, Lizzy Caplan, Mike Colter, Lilly Aspell, and Emma Booth star in the film, which was scripted by Spenser Cohen, Brad Kane, and ARRIVAL's Eric Heisserer. The story:

A father has a recurring dream of losing his family. His nightmare turns into reality when the planet is invaded by a force bent on destruction. Fighting for their lives, he comes to realize an unknown strength to keep them safe from harm.

I'd watch the second feature from the director of HOUNDS OF LOVE regardless of what it was, and while I'm somewhat surprised that this is what it is, I'll be checking out EXTINCTION for sure. It looks to start out like an interesting pscyhological thriller and then become a large scale sci-fi action nightmare, which should be interesting to watch play out, especially with the cast Young assembled.

Check out the EXTINCTION trailer below and prepare for the movie to show up on Netflix in a couple weeks:
