As we speak, a cluster of lucky journalists are in hanging out on the set of INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 in New Mexico, getting a very early look at the anticipated sci-fi sequel. JoBlo.com is a presence on the set, and while there’s not much we can spill now, 20th Century Fox will indeed allow us to show you a couple of behind-the-scenes pics, as well as the title treatment, a video title treatment and an interview with the cast and director Roland Emmerich that went down last night.

Oh yes, we can also stop calling it INDEPENDENCE DAY 2. It’s now INDEPENDENCE DAY RESURGENCE. I guess that’s accurate enough!

Additionally, we now have an officially official synopsis:

We always knew they were coming back.  After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women  can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

INDEPENDENCE DAY RESURGENCE stars Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward. It will open in theaters June 24, 2016.
