BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC is one of those projects that seemed destined to remain in Development Hell, alongside Ted's evil Easter Bunny and Bill's dreaded grandma kisses. But it seems to have beaten the odds, and is only months away from release, with original screenwriters Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson returning, as well the director of GALAXY QUEST Dean Parisotat at the helm! Meanwhile, here's what fan favorite director Kevin Smith had to say about the film on his podcast FATMAN BEYOND – as even though he wasn't involved in the production itself – he did see an early screening (which apparently also brought him to tears):
I saw a movie today, and it was fucking wonderful… It is adorable… I hope that doesn’t sound dismissive, I need everyone to remember unlike say Cheech & Chong or what are the other guys, Jay and Silent Bob, those cats were R-Rated movies. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is as ‘you can watch it with your family’ as it gets. Knowing that going into this, that’s kind of important, it’s a family film, it’s wonderful. It’s absolutely adorable, they stuck the landing.
That's great to hear! Of course, that's just one man's opinion, and doesn't mean it'll be a universal one, but I'm a fan of Smith (DOGMA is one of my favorite movies ever) so it's at least heartening that one of the first reactions to the film is a positive one.
Now the long-gestating sequel BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC will finally be released August 14th.
