I’m not going to even pretend that I haven’t seen my fair share of SpongeBob Squarepants. It’s a show that goes to some weird places. Had it been birthed during Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim line-up, I wouldn’t have been surprised. Regardless, the creators have decided to take their second feature-film in a new direction, as they’re bringing SpongeBob and Co. out of the sea and giving them a pseudo-realistic makeover.

Take a look for yourself:

I haven’t decided if the new look for the gang is the stuff of David Lynch‘s nightmares or . . . okay, no, it’s creeping me out. Also, I can never get over the fact that Clancy Brown voices Mr. Krabs. If they could slip in some lines from SHAWSHANK or STARSHIP TROOPERS, that would be too good.

THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE OUT OF WATER, will hit theaters February 6, 2015.
