Lionsgate won’t be releasing the Janelle Monae thriller Antebellum in August

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

In a move that's not very surprising, Lionsgate has chosen to remove the "terrifying thriller" ANTEBELLUM from its August 21st release date. This is the second time the film has been delayed due to the pandemic; it had originally been scheduled to reach theatres on April 24th. Lionsgate has not yet picked a new date for ANTEBELLUM, but we'll let you know when they do.

The feature debut of writing/directing duo Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, the film stars recording artist Janelle Monae as

successful author Veronica Henley, who finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late.

The marketing is pointing out that this is "from the producer of the acclaimed films GET OUT and US", which may lead some to believe that the producer in question is Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions. This is not a Blumhouse film, the producer they're talking about is Sean McKittrick. McKittrick produced ANTEBELLUM with Bush and Renz, Zev Foreman, Raymond Mansfield (who was an executive producer on GET OUT), and Lezlie Wills. Alex G. Scott and Kenny Mac executive produced.

Monae made her screen acting debut in 2016 with the films MOONLIGHT and HIDDEN FIGURES. Both of those were nominated for Best Picture, with MOONLIGHT taking the win. She's a big fan of The Twilight Zone and has made some solid choices in her acting career so far, which bodes well for ANTEBELLUM.
