MacGruber TV Series: Will Forte posts first look image

macgruber sequel series

I've always hoped we'd get a MacGruber 2. Jorma Taccone's original film was so much better than anyone could have reasonably thought it would be. Sure, the original SNL skits were funny, but did anyone think they could sustain a film? In the end, it wound up being fantastic, with Will Forte's MacGruber ripping out throats alongside Kristen Wiig's Vicki St. Elmo and Ryan Phillippe's action man Dixon. Sadly, the movie tanked pretty hard at the box office, only grossing $9.3 million, although it spawned a huge cult following.

Thankfully, Peacock, which is still looking for a show to set itself apart from the other streamers, has greenly a limited series sequel. So not only is Forte back, but Kristen Wiig, who's become a mega-star in the intervening years, is coming back too. So is Phillippe, who became a legit action star after his long-running series "Shooter." Add to that an excellent supporting cast that includes Sam Elliot as MacGruber's dad, Laurence Fishburne, and none other than Mickey Rourke as the bad guy, and you've got some must-see TV. To that end, Forte, proving that the series is indeed happening, posted a first look image via his Instagram showing the core trio in action.

The sequel series is set to run eight episodes and show up on Peacock sometime in 2022.
