McG now developing True Lies TV series for Disney+

James Cameron's TRUE LIES starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Harry Tasker, a secret agent who leads a double life as he struggles to find the balance between work and family. Jamie Lee Curtis also starred as Harry's wife, Helen, who has no idea of her husband's true occupation and is desperately seeking a more adventurous life. There had been talk of a TRUE LIES sequel for a number of years, but those plans were later scrapped and 20th Century Fox got the ball rolling on a TV adaptation of the action film instead back in 2017 with McG (CHARLIE'S ANGELS) set to executive produce (along with Cameron) and direct.

Now that Disney has acquired Fox, you just might be wondering what became of that True Lies TV series. Well, McG recently spoke with Collider where he dropped a few tidbits about the potential project, namely that it's now in the works for Disney+.

Well right now my new thing for television is I’m doing True Lies at Disney+. Which is exciting. I’m writing that one, which is very exciting, because I’m so passionate about that story where you think you know your partner but you don’t.

Although it seems that the series may be something of a reboot, McG added that the door is open for a possible appearance from Arnold Schwarzenegger. "There's talk of that," McG said. "It's largely rebooted but there may be a spot there, we'll see." Whatever happens, we'll still likely a ways off from seeing the project for ourselves as McG said that he's in the process of breaking the outline at the moment and will spend the summer writing it.
