Aubrey Plaza thinks playing Catwoman in Reeves’ Batman would be purrfect

Ever since Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN was announcd, celebrity fans of the Caped Crusader have been very vocal about which villains they'd like to see the World's Greatest Detective square off against when a new era of Bat-films begins. In fact, it was just last week when GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY star Dave Bautista voiced his enthusiasm for playing Bane, as a part of Reeves' planned trilogy. And now, it appears as if CHILD'S PLAY and LEGION actress Aubrey Plaza is down for sharpening her claws as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman.

Recently while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote Lars Klevberg's CHILD'S PLAY reboot, in which Plaza plays the mother of Andy Barclay (Gabriel Bateman), Karen Barclay, the PARKS AND RECREATION alumna told Colbert that she'd love to suit up as DC's greatest cat burglar.

“Okay, I’ve said that in like a couple interviews because… I get asked questions like, ‘If you were a superhero, which one would you want to be?’ And I just always think of Catwoman because I just love that character and I love the Catwoman movie. The Halle Berry one. But it’s not something I think about every day… I’m just not gonna even try to get that part. There’s no way in Hell they’re gonna cast me,” said Plaza.

After that, things got a little hairy as Colbert revealed a pair of cat ears that he'd kept hidden behind his desk. With her hackles clearly raised, Plaza told Stephen, "Get that out of here." Then, as politely as she could, Plaza placed the ears atop her head while brandishing a Grumpy Cat-like expression. Or was that just her usual "take no shit" expression? Sometimes it's hard to tell. Shortly thereafter, Colbert pulled a blue water dish and a fishing rod-like cat toy from behind his Desk of Many Secrets. Going along with the bit, Plaza began batting at the feathered toy while making "meow" noises at her host. She then leaned forward and swatted at Colbert, who appeared genuinely frightened for just a moment at just how much Plaza was leaning into the joke. Finally, Plaza lapped at an invisible pool of water to seal the deal, then flashed Colbert an "are we done yet" glare. All things considered, I'm surprised Colbert survived the ordeal.

Straight up, I think Aubrey Plaza as Catwoman for Reeves' Batman film would be positively purrfect. Have you seen her as Lenny Busker in FX's LEGION? She's got the moves, the allure, and a mysterious vibe about her 24/7. I could easily see her slipping into Selina's suit and baiting Pattinson's Batman into a torrid and destructive love affair. A lot of people still think of Plaza as April Ludgate from PARKS AND RECREATION, but I feel that she's really grown since that time, and a role as Catwoman in Reeves' film would be a prime opportunity to show the world just how hypnotic she truly is.

Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN will swoop into theaters on June 25, 2021.
