Comedy Central announces most best satirical talk show, The President Show

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Say what you will about President Trump (ah, it burns!), but he stands as one of the most impersonated people on the planet, even before his election. He’s right up there with Arnold Schwarzenegger, George W. Bush, Sylvester Stallone and drunk David Hasselhoff. Now all the satirizing will reach a whole new level as Comedy Central has announced a new talk show focused on the president – THE PRESIDENT SHOW.

Starring Anthony Atamanuik, using his famed Trump impression, the show will act as a weekly talk show that will put the Trumpian spin on all the talk show trademarks, such as celebrity interviews, desk bits and field pieces.  All of it will be coming straight from the Oval Office, with Peter Grosz playing his sidekick, Vice President Mike Pence.

This full announcement came after Central teased the show last Friday with the Twitter handle @LateNightDonald. Airing Thursdays at 11:30 PM (starting on April 27) after THE DAILY SHOW WITH TREVOR NOAH, the show will fill the gap between NOAH and @MIDNIGHT after THE NIGHTLY SHOW WITH LARRY WILMORE was cancelled.

Atamanuik has been playing the president for some time now, appearing on numerous TV programs and going on a 40-city tour called Trump vs. Bernie with the album, Trump Vs. Bernie: Live From Brooklyn debuting at #1 on iTunes. He spoke about the show saying:

Laughing at the President is a proud American tradition and we hope not to disappoint anyone in that department. But our political system is too broken for us to be content joking about one man, even though he is a disastrous silly little toddler boy. Mostly I’d just like to thank Comedy Central for giving us this platform to speak truth to power and if we’re lucky, end up in prison!

Comedy Central is no stranger to sending up the president. Back in the early 00s Trey Parker and Matt Stone created a sitcom around Bush called THAT’S MY BUSH, but it was cancelled despite positive reaction. But Trump material is gold nowadays (both figuratively and literally), and he’s too easy a target to not do something like this about. Atamanuik’s impression is on-point, and with the constant f@ckery coming out of the White House on a daily basis I can’t see them running out of material. My only hope is that the real president keeps a high head about the whole thing. *que rolling on the floor from manic laughter*.

THE PRESIDENT SHOW arrive April 27.
