Doctor Strange will be a “mind-trip action film”

Marvel Studios is exceptional with their game of misdirection. They are able to get everyone looking over here while, over there, they are accomplishing plenty under the radar. Once it's time to show some of it off, they do, getting everyone talking about it and obsessing over it as they once again slide back to the original spot while no one looks and get started on something else we're paying no attention to. It's brilliant, and it's what we're caught in the middle of right now.

DOCTOR STRANGE is in production, and yet barely anyone is keeping a close eye on it. Why? Because Marvel has been feeding us CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR goodies. As we get a stomache from all that consumption, mystical and magical things are unfolding within the Marvel Cinematic Universe… things we don't know about.

There are a lot of questions about what exactly DOCTOR STRANGE will be, and how they will incorporate some of the "stranger" elements of the character and his branch of the MCU into what they've already established through the first two Phases. But, in a special segment that you can find within the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase 2 Collection Blu-ray set, director Scott Derrickson is pretty straight-forward about what you can expect out of the Sorcerer Supreme's first solo film in this shared universe.

What you can expect from this DOCTOR STRANGE is a mind-trip action film.

Kevin Feige doubles down on that sentiment by laying out one of the primary goals of bringing the character to life within the MCU.

How do you put that on a screen within this cinematic universe? That is one of the primary goals of that movie.

He took the words right out of my mouth. Needless to say, it appears they have a pretty good idea of what DOCTOR STRANGE needs to do to be successful, both for the universe and for the character. Now we wait…

DOCTOR STRANGE arrives in theaters on November 4, 2016.
