Dwayne Johnson "seriously considered" running for president in 2020

Last year people started throwing around the idea that superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson should run for president of the United States in 2020. Even though he’s often very busy saving the world or escaping dangerous jungles there was a sense he was actually considering a run. Well, now he’s officially put it on the record that, considering all the ass-kicking and building-scaling he has going on, he will, in fact, not be running for president…at least not in 2020.

The actor was speaking with Vanity Fair about the topic and said that he’s simply too busy to take on such a daunting task, but that he “seriously considered” running for the top office.

Unfortunately, I don’t see it happening in 2020. It’s a position that requires years of hard work and experience to learn the skills. There’s a lot of ground to cover, and due to my schedule, it’s not possible in 2020. I have so much respect for the position. It’s something that I seriously considered. What I need is time to go out and learn.

Hiram Garcia, Johnson’s friend and president of his production company, Seven Bucks Productions, said that once people started spreading around the idea of Johnson running he did put some “serious thought” into it. “Dwayne really does care about the people, and he has great respect for the position that it requires and holds,” he said. “Whenever we talk about him running for president, he’s very aware of the position and knows what is required of it, and he doesn’t like to speak loosely about it ’cause he respects the job, and respects the people and what it took to get there.”

Though this may have been something that came and went on social media in the span of 24 hours, the notion that the massive star could run for president picked up so much steam that a poll was conducted and concluded that Johnson could even win the race should he decide to run against Donald Trump. He even had some fun with the matter, using his SNL monologue to say he was going to run with Tom Hanks as his running mate.

When it comes to his upcoming schedule Johnson would indeed have a hard time kicking off a campaign next year. Not only does he have the highly-anticipated HOBBS AND SHAW movie with Jason Statham on the docket, he’s also got JUMANJI 3 to start, as well JUNGLE CRUISE as well as tons of other projects. Then there’s the matter of up-in-the-air projects like BLACK ADAM with DC, so taking that all in, yeah, it would be tough also being the leader of the free world.

Though you won't see any political ads anytime soon you can see Johnson in SKYSCRAPER in theaters tomorrow.
