Glow to enter the ring with a new comic book series in March 2019

IDW Publishing has announced that they're preparing to hit the mats with the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling when a four-issue comic book series based on Netflix's GLOW launches in March of 2019. When the new comic makes its grand entrance, the limited series will present fans of the Netflix wrestling drama with an original story featuring Alison Brie's Ruth, Betty Gilpin's Debbie and other members of the GLOW movement finding themselves accidentally scheduled for a charity wrestling match with real lady wrestlers.

Penning the new series will be Euthanauts scribe Tini Howard, who will be joined by Jem and the Holograms: Dimensions artist Hannah Templar for the limited run. Set to officially oversee the book's creation as executive producers are GLOW co-creators, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch. When asked to give a statement, both ladies jointly said, “We're thrilled to work with IDW to bring new stories to life on the page and in the ring. Can we smoosh 14 women into a little frame? Only time will tell... but we couldn't be more excited!”

Howard then joined the conversation by expressing her own excitement for the series when she said, “I'm more than just a GLOW fan, I'm a wrestling fan, too. I've written wrestling comics before, and I adore it. Wrestling and comic books are a natural fit for more than just tights and fights. Each of the gorgeous ladies has either developed her own character or adapted to one thrust upon her, and making that identity her own is not dissimilar to, say, putting on a bat costume.”

While it's a bummer that we still don't know when the third season of GLOW will arrive, this upcoming comic book series is sure to give fans of Netflix's female-centric sports drama something to shout about until the show's triumphant return. Here's hoping that the limited series is able to capture all the blood, sweat, and tears that makes GLOW such a joy to watch.

GLOW, from IDW Publishing, will arrive via comic book retailers beginning in March of 2019.
