New badass trailer and poster for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the best so far

Naturally, there's some folks who aren't quite as excited for THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG after the first entry failed to win over audiences the same as the original THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy did. However, after watching this new trailer I suspect that a lot of the skeptics may change their tune a bit. Dark, rousing, and full of new footage, this new extended trailer makes its case for our cash next month, of which I'm happy to part with. Now that we're done with the set-up with the first film, I'm excited to "get down to business" with this next entry and if this trailer is any indication, we're in for a hell of a show.

Check it out:

Although I'd agree that Peter Jackson and co. may have gotten overzealous in extending what was originally two films into three, they're so chock full of passion for the material that it's really hard to find a complaint that doesn't sound like whining. With additional (and some returning) castmembers Lee Pace, Evangeline Lilly, Orlando Bloom, Luke Evans, and Benedict Cumberbatch joining in the adventure, the ante has been upped for some good old fashioned Middle Earth coolness. Shit, just hearing Cumberbatch as Smaug is enough to get me a little giddy for this one.

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG hits theaters on December 13, 2013.
