Soska twins share first footage from Rabid remake

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In an interview with CBC News, Jen and Sylvia Soska revealed the first few moments of footage from their upcoming horror movie RABID.

A remake of David Cronenberg's 1977 cult classic, RABID tells the story of Rose (Laura Vandervoort), a quiet unassuming woman who dreams of becoming a famous designer in the fashion world, but a tragic accident leaves her horribly scarred. Desperate for any operation that would restore her face to its previous composition, Rose agrees to undergo a radical untested cell treatment. At first, it seems that her wildest dreams have come true. Rose is even more beautiful than she was before, breaking necks every time she walks into a room. However, as time goes on, it becomes clear that such breathtaking beauty comes at a price, as is transformed into a monster with an insatiable lust for human blood.

Both identical twins and filmmaking partners, the Soska sisters have been impressive auteurs ever since they made waves with their 2012 body horror flick AMERICAN MARY, winning them Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, a special mention at Austin's Fantastic Fest, a slew of trophies at Screamfest, a limited theatrical run, and a DVD/Blu-ray release by Universal Pictures UK. From there, the twins went on to helm the "W is for Witch Queen" segment in ABCS OF DEATH 2, direct the WWE slasher sequel SEE NO EVIL 2, and host their own television horror themed game show on GSN called HELLEVATOR. Now the ladies are back to re-vamp an early Cronenberg, and based on the footage shown here, it looks like we're all in for a wild ride.

RABID stars Laura Vandervoort, Lynn Lowry, Greg Bryk, Stephen McHattie, Stephen Huszar, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Mackenzie Gray, and Jen and Sylvia Soska. The film is has not announced its official release date yet, but it is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2019.
