Nacho Libre duo Jared Hess and Jack Black reteam for comedy Micronations

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

There are few movies I hate as much as NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. I don’t think it is funny at all. But, Jared Hess‘ follow-up film, NACHO LIBRE, makes me laugh every time I see it. Maybe it is Jack Black in the lead or maybe it is just the ridiculous plot of the film, but the dynamic between star and director just works. Now, the pair are getting ready to try and do it again.

Black will star in Hess’ next film, MICRONATIONS which the actor will also produce. The movie comes from a script by Robert Snow and Christian Magalhaes who write for FOX’s sitcom New Girl.

In “Micronations,” a lovable oddball finds a place to belong among the bizarre and ridiculous world of “do-it-yourself countries,” inhabited by a motley crew of eccentrics and visionaries who have declared their own backyards sovereign nations…or “micronations.” He soon finds himself recruited as head of defense for the tiny nation of Valoria (population: 12), and is thrust into an overblown battle with the neighboring Wayne County, Nevada.

Jared Hess has always made films about oddballs and weirdos. His next film, MASTERMINDS, opens August 7th and stars Kristen Wiig and Zack Galifianakis. While he is also attached to Disney’s OVERNIGHT ON 42ND STREET, MICRONATIONS could go into production as soon as next year. Now, who could play a good foe for Black in the film? I wouldn’t mind seeing him go up against Galifianakis, but that may be too on the nose.
