Nicolas Cage and Russell Brand star in straight-to-VOD comedy Army of One

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Who doesn't love Nicolas Cage? More importantly, who doesn't love crazy-ass UNHINGED Nicolas Cage? Because while Cage is a legitimately great actor (just look at RAISING ARIZONA, LEAVING LAS VEGAS, or ADAPTATION for a few examples) there's something fun about Cage just Cage-ing out and chewing the scenery like Kirby on meth.

His new film ARMY OF ONE, co-starring Russell Brand as f*cking God himself, seems to be the perfect vehicle for "crazy-ass" Cage rather than Oscar-bait Cage. Here's the synopsis:

Gary Faulkner (Cage) is an ex-con, unemployed handyman, and modern day Don Quixote who receives a vision from God (Brand) telling him to capture Osama Bin Laden. Armed with only a single sword purchased from a home-shopping network, Gary travels to Pakistan to complete his mission. While on his quest, Gary encounters old friends back home in Colorado, the new friends he makes in Pakistan, the enemies he makes at the CIA – and even God and Osama themselves. Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rainn Wilson, and Paul Scheer also star in this hilarious tale of patriotism and one man’s quest for justice.

Anyway, this movie sounds fucking amaze-balls. Even the fact that it's going straight to VOD doesn't deter me – many great, weird little films came out on VOD. So while it might be an indictment on its quality, it could also be an endorsement of its balls-out weirdness. Let's hope it's the latter rather than the former.

ARMY OF ONE, co-starring Rainn Wilson and Paul Scheer, will drop on VOD, DVD, and Blu-Ray November 15th, 2016.
