Producer Jason Blum would love to release a new Purge movie every year

THE PURGE: ANARCHY will be hitting theaters this summer, and producer Jason Blum says he'd like to do more PURGE movies, possibly with a new one being released every year. Blum spoke with Collider about the upcoming sequel, and the site asked him about possibly releasing a PURGE film every year, similar to his PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise.

I hope so. I would love that. There are so many stories you could tell with it.

Collider then asked Blum if they had any plans for a third film while working on THE PURGE: ANARCHY.

Yeah. The first movie, we never make thinking about sequels. The second movie, we always think about sequels. With Insidious 2, Sinister 2, The Purge: Anarchy and even the second Paranormal Activity, we’re establishing a franchise, so we always think about what the third movie will be. I just never think, on the first movie, about what the second movie will be.

Jason Blum also addressed one of the biggest complaints many had with the first film (how almost all of the action takes place in the house) and talked about how THE PURGE: ANARCHY will be much bigger in scope.

A lot of people had that reaction. A lot of people were like, “I liked the idea, but it’s too much in the house.” They didn’t want to see it from one family’s point of view inside the house. They wanted to go outside the house and see what’s going on. So, the entire second movie happens outside the house. The entire second movie is on the streets during The Purge.

I'm one of those people who did think too much time was spent in the house in THE PURGE, however I'm very pleased with what I've seen so far for the sequel. How many more PURGE flicks will there be though? I think stopping after three would be the best idea, but as you all know money talks, and if THE PURGE: ANARCHY is a hit at the box office, we'll probably be seeing more sequels in the future.

THE PURGE: ANARCHY starring Frank Grillo will be in theaters on July 18th, 2014.
