Rooney Mara does melodrama in Jim Sheridan’s The Secret Scripture trailer

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Based on the novel of the same name, THE SECRET SCRIPTURE follows a one-hundred-year-old woman, Roseanne McNulty, who now resides in the Roscommon Regional Mental Hospital. Having been a patient for some fifty years or more, Roseanne decides to write an autobiography that chronicles the religious and political upheavals in Ireland in the 1920s and ’30s.

Director Jim Sheridan (BROTHERS, IN AMERICA) generally excels in character relationships and it looks like THE SECRET SCRIPTURE is right up his alley. Rooney Mara is a wonderful actress, although she seems a bit cold here. After SING STREET, I’m really up for watching Jack Reynor in anything, so I’m curious to see how this one will play out!

THE SECRET SCRIPTURE will open in theaters later this year.
