AMERICAN HONEY tells the story of a teenage girl (Sasha Lane) with nothing to lose who joins a traveling magazine sales crew, and gets caught up in a whirlwind of hard partying, law bending and young love as she criss-crosses the Midwest with a band of misfits. Writer/director Andrea Arnold has a pretty grounded visual aesthetic, and while I enjoyed most of FISH TANK, I’m hoping that the end game of this film amounts to more than just a bunch of kids driving around the country. Most importantly, the performances looks pretty genuine, so I’m willing to bet that A24 will be distributing yet another unique and engaging film.
AMERICAN HONEY will be released later this year.
