Squid Game Season 3 talks are already happening with Netflix

After becoming one of the most-watched series in television history and changing the attitudes of those who balk at having to read subtitles, Squid Game could be getting not only season 2, and but season 3 at Netflix. While engaging in a chin-wag with KBS in Korea, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said that he’s spoken with the streaming giant about future installments of the show.

“I’m in talks with Netflix over season 2 as well as season 3,” Hwang explained (as translated by The Korea Times). “We will come to a conclusion any time soon,” he added. I’m a bit fuzzy on that last part. I assume something had been lost in the translation. Nevertheless, it sounds like Hwang is happy with the way negotiations are going.

While news about the second season of Squid Game comes as no surprise, I believe this is the first time that Hwang has spoken openly about the third season being a possibility. It’s the natural order of things like this, isn’t it? If you discover something as successful as Squid Game, the defacto reaction is to lock down a deal for more as quickly as possible. After all, you’ve got to grab that pop culture touchstone by the nethers and yank, right? That’s how you make the big bucks. It’s also a key component in selling all those leftover Halloween costumes the following year.

Previously, Hwang spoke with the Associated Press about Season 2, and how he feels an incredible sense of pressure to deliver a successful follow-up to the show’s stellar debut. “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season,” said Hwang during a red carpet celebration for Squid Game. “It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen. So I will promise you this, Gi-hun will be back and he’ll do something for the world,” explained Hwang.

How do you think Hwang will continue Gi-hun’s story in Squid Game Season 2? Do you think the character will survive long enough to make it to Squid Game Season 3? What games do you think should be featured in the coming seasons? Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments section below.
