Steven Soderbergh adds McGregor, Quaid and Douglas to his ‘Knockout’ cast

What a KNOCKOUT indeed.

The cast and plot for Stephen Soderbergh’s KNOCKOUT have been announced. In September, we reported that mixed martial arts champion, Gina Carano was set to star.

Backing Carano will be Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Dennis Quaid and Michael Douglas. This is definitely an interesting mix.

The plot is actually being called a revenge action spy thriller. It’s the story of Mallory Kane (Carano), a black ops super solider who is double crossed by someone on her team. The scorned solider tries to uncover the teammate that has set her up to take the fall for a job that goes terribly wrong which involves a murder.

The gentlemen joining the cast will be part of Kane’s special forces team. The Playlist says, “that Douglas plays a government figure not unlike Chris Cooper or Brian Cox from the BOURNE movies.” Fassbender and another actor, that has yet to be announced, will play members of her commando spy unit, and one of them will be the betrayer. McGregor’s role is that of the owner of the private military group that Kane is a part of.

Lem Dobbs (THE LIMEY) is the script writer for the film, which is using KNOCKOUT as a working title. The deal for the spy thriller is unique in the fact that Soderbergh will be paid no fee up front for the film, but will later have full ownership once it comes out. Lionsgate and Relativity Media are hoping for an August release.
