The Conjuring TV series in the works at Max (formerly known as HBO Max)

A TV series set within the Conjuring Universe is in development at the Max streaming service (formerly known as HBO Max)

The HBO Max streaming service is being rebranded as simply Max, and now that they have a newly shortened name they’re making a lot of news announcement to let us know what the future holds for Max. Among today’s revelations is that Max is developing a series that would be set in the Conjuring Universe!

The Hollywood Reporter has been able to confirm that Conjuring Universe franchise producer Peter Safran, who also now (with James Gunn) heads up DC Studios for Max owner Warner Bros. Discovery, will executive produce the series. A deal hasn’t been locked in with fellow Conjuring Universe producer James Wan just yet, but talks are underway to get him on board as an executive producer.

Plot details are being kept under wraps. All Max was willing to say is that the series will “continue the story established in the feature films.” And there are plenty of story options for them to pursue. You have the case files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga and have been at the center of The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It; there are the horrific adventures of demon-associated doll Annabelle, who has carried three films on her shoulders (Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, and Annabelle Comes Home); there’s the evil nun of The Nun and the upcoming The Nun 2. They could even go further into the mythology of the Conjuring Universe-adjacent The Curse of La Llorona, or bring the scrapped spin-off idea The Crooked Man to the screen.

Not too long ago, we heard that The Conjuring 4 is also in the works.

What do you think of the idea of a TV series that’s set within the Conjuring Universe? Is that a show you would watch? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

While I like the Conjuring movies, I haven’t been too impressed with most of the spin-offs… but I have watched them all, so I’ll probably end up watching this TV series as well, regardless of what it ends up being about. Having waded this deep into a franchise, I’m committed to seeing it through.
