Trailer: Christopher Smith’s The Banishing secures Shudder distribution

Genre streaming service Shudder has acquired the rights to release director Christopher Smith's THE BANISHING in multiple territories, including North America, the UK and Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

The film has also secured distribution deals in France, Germany, Switzerland, Latin America, Portugal, Russia and the Baltics, the Middle East, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. Release dates don't appear to have been announced, but along with all of this distribution news comes the release of a trailer, which can be seen above.

Scripted by Ronnie Thompson, Ray Bogdanovich, and Dean Lines, THE BANISHING is set in 1930s England and tells the story of

a young reverend, his wife and daughter who move into a manor with a horrifying secret. When a vengeful spirit haunts the little girl and threatens to tear the family apart, the reverend and his wife are forced to confront their beliefs. They must turn to black magic by seeking the help of a famous Occultist or risk losing their daughter.

Jessica Brown Findlay, John Heffernan, John Lynch, and Sean Harris star.

The film was financed by Westend Films. Maya Amsellem, Sharon Harel-Cohen, Jason Newmark, and Laurie Cook produced.

THE BANISHING is making its world premiere at the Sitges festival today, October 12th, and will have a virtual screening during FrightFest later this month.

Judging by the trailer, this appears to be a solid haunted house movie that will make a good addition to Shudder. I'll check it out when it starts streaming.
