Transformers: The Movie will roll back into theaters for one night only

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Michael Bay’s massive, lucrative TRANSFORMERS movies have found their place in modern pop culture, giving a new generation of moviegoers plenty of robots and explosions to admire. Some of the younger folks who watch these movies may not know about the popular Transformers show of the 80’s, but now they can get a proper education on the big screen because 1986’s TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE is rolling back into theaters.

Courtesy of Fathom Events, Hasbro, and Shout Factory, the animated feature will hit theaters for one night only on September 27, only a few months before of the newest live-action movie, BUMBLEBEE. Along with the remastered, HD version of the movie viewers will get a sneak peek at the upcoming movie about our favorite yellow Autobot, as well as an interview with songwriter Stan Bush who wrote the themes “The Touch” and “Dare.” The event will take place across 500 theaters nationwide, and you can check out more on the Fathom site.

THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE has captured a special place in the hearts of millions and has been a staple in the pop culture zeitgeist since 1986. Featuring memorable characters from the heroic AUTOBOTS and villainous DECEPTICONS, and thrilling action and a heartfelt storyline, THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE is a cultural touchstone that spans generations. Beloved by legions of fans, this full-length animated adventure boasts the voice talent of Orson Welles in his final voice acting role and an all-star voice cast that includes Peter Cullen, Eric Idle, Casey Kasem, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Robert Stack and Frank Welker.

The movie may not have been popular when it came out, becoming a box office disappointment that lost $10 million. This is perhaps because of its rather dark approach to the story, which involved killing off Optimus Prime in the first act. Not exactly a crowdpleaser. But it has since achieved cult status and plenty of recognition from fans, with many believing it’s better than anything Bay has cooked up with the series in the last ten years.

THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE hits theaters for one night only September 27, and you can start buying tickets on August 3.
